This is a stupid question, but what exactly is Vanilla Wow? I joined 2 years ago and I will see players mention once and a while 'Vanilla Wow', but I have no idea what it means 
I also see them mention something called 'moonguard' whenever someone does something sexual.....I don't know what that means either, lol.

vanilla is WoW prior to any expansion packs. the original World of Warcraft, which was released in November 2004. so, the time period between then and the release of BC.
